What Is LASIK?
By wpadminLASIK is a laser eye procedure designed to correct vision issues for both distance and reading vision as well as astigmatisms. Short for “Laser Assisted in-Situ Keratomileusis”, LASIK has been shown to essentially eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses in many patients. LASIK is often preferred over PRK surgery or other options because of its shorter recovery period.
LASIK surgery reshapes the patient’s cornea to reduce the patient’s near-sightedness, far-sightedness or astigmatism. When performed by a properly trained, experienced LASIK surgeon, LASIK enables many patients to live, work and play without corrective lenses.
LASIK surgery relies on the use of anesthetic drops placed in the eyes and is an outpatient procedure. Many patients are able to return to their routines within 24 hours of their procedure.
During LASIK, a thin flap is created. This flap enables the surgeon to reshape the cornea to correct your vision. The flap is then folded back and allowed to heal. LASIK does not require stitches or sutures
